Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami has reportedly not received his fitness clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Since the clearance is pending, the fast bowler won’t fly to Australia to join the Indian squad for the rest of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Notably, the star bowler is currently out of the international cricketing sphere due to the injury he sustained after the ICC ODI World Cup 2023.

As per reports doing rounds in the media, the Sports Sice wing of the BCCI’s Bengaluru-based Centre of Excellence hasn’t submitted an all-clear report to the BCCI. According to Cricbuzz, a team from the NCA went to Rajkot, where the bowler was playing in the SMAT to monitor his progress. While the bowler has made an impressive bowling comeback, the assessment carried out was whether he would be able withstand the work pressure of a Test match.

Mohammed Shami unlikely to fly to Australia

The reports by Cricbuzz have stated that the fast-bowler is unlikely to fly to Australia immediately, despite the fact that India are currently struggling. However, reports further state the bowler might be with the squad for the final Test in Sydney. However, sources state that is in an overly optimistic expectation and it wouldn’t be surprising if he doesn’t make it to the land Down Under.

Notably, Shami made a remarkable comeback to competitive cricket. Speaking of his team, Bengal have made it to the knockout stage of the SMAT and they are up against Chandigarh in the pre-quarterfinals which will be played at Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on December 9. The 34-year-old is expected to feature in the forthcoming knockouts of the SMAT.
