Indian skipper Rohit Sharma is currently carrying the expectation of billions of Indian cricket fans who are backing their team to lift its second T20 World Cup title. After MS Dhoni lifted the title in its inaugural edition, neither Dhoni himself nor his successor Virat Kohli could repeat that performance and clinch the title.
Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, Team India is being regarded as favourites and have shown great signs to qualify for the finals.
Meanwhile, newly appointed BCCI president Roger Binny was recently asked to draw a comparison between World Cup-winning captains Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni with current Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.
In response to that, Roger Binny remained tight-lipped and stated that every captain has their own style to lead the squad and two separate players must not be compared.
Notably, Rohit Sharma played under the leadership of MS Dhoni during most of his international career and was also part of the squad which lifted the T20 World Cup title in 2007.
“Rohit is an experienced player. He has played so many matches and been in so many situations. Everyone has a different approach. Dhoni is totally different, you can’t compare him, Kapil or Gavaskar. Each one has a different way of how they operate," said Roger Binny.
Meanwhile, Rohit was named as Virat Kohli's successor earlier this year and then BCCI president Sourav Ganguly backed the newly appointed skipper by claiming that his ability to lead the squad to successful titles strengthened his resume.
Team India has almost qualified for the semi-finals after putting up a dominating performance against its opponents in the Super 12 stage encounter but need to win their final match against Zimbabwe.
Barring the South Africa clash, Team India registered a convincing victory in all other games. However, Rohit Sharma has struggled with the bat except in the second clash against the Netherlands where the captain scored a crucial 53 off 39 deliveries.
As Team India take on Zimbabwe on November 6 at Melbourne Cricket Stadium and team management will hope its skipper hits the right chords before the team enters into the knock-out stage of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia.
