Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni jumped into the pitch debate after his team’s five-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Chennai won against Lucknow after losing five games on the trot in the competition. The Men in Yellow witnessed the gallant side of their captain Dhoni while chasing a target of 167. The 43-year-old struck a rapid 26 off 11 and became the Player of the Match (POTM) for his stunning innings. He broke into the record books for becoming the oldest IPL player to win the POTM award.
After the match, Dhoni took a swipe at the MA Chidambaram Stadium's pitch curator for providing the slow pitch to CSK in Chennai. "One of the reasons could be that the Chennai wicket is slightly on the slower side. When we have played away from home, the batting unit has done slightly better. Maybe we need to play on wickets that are slightly better so that it'll give the batters confidence to play their shots. You don't want to play timid cricket. As a bowling unit we've done well. As a batting unit, we can do better,"" said Dhoni after the contest in Lucknow.
CSK to take on arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) on April 20
CSK’s next challenge will be against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the iconic Wankhede Stadium on April 20. In their last meeting in Chennai on March 23, the Yellow Army emerged victorious by four wickets. CSK have won their last four games against Mumbai and they will look to be dominant against the Men in Blue again.
Like CSK, Mumbai have also struggled to be among the wins. The Hardik Pandya-led side have won only two games out of their six outings. After losing four matches in a row, MI clinched a 12-run win against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 13.
