Mumbai Indians are making a comeback in the IPL 2023 as they have won two back-to-back matches after losing their opening two games. However, the match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday was marred by a betting case as police arrested five people on Monday. 

Mumbai Police arrested five people on Monday in an IPL betting case  from the Wankhede Stadium . Crime branch unit 6 of Mumbai Police tapped them using mobile and betting apps during the game between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders on April 16. 

Three sim cards, nine Mobile phones, debit cards, passports, match tickets, and some cash were recovered,  worth around 2.2 lakhs,  by the police. They have been arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, the Gambling Act, and the IT Act. The apprehended used forged documents to get sim cards and used their mobile phones to place bets online.

The police apprehended the accused when a match between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders was underway at the stadium on Sunday, an official said as quoted by PTI.

Talking about the game, Mumbai Indians won a hard-fought match and chased down the target of 186. Venkatesh Iyer scored a hundred and a cameo from Andre Russell to get to 185. Mumbai started in a blistering fashion.  Ishan Kishan scored 58 off just 25 to provide a solid foundation. Tilak and Surya continued from where they left off and made handy contributions of 30 and 45 each. Tim David played a cameo of 24 from  13 balls and finished the game in the 18th over itself.
