De’Aaron Fox has recorded a major step in his career as he stitched a lucrative $228 million-deal with the San Antonio Spurs on August 4. His contract will be active for four years until the 2029-230 season. Expectations will be high from De’Aaron and Victor Wembanyama as both have evolved a lot in the sport. Spurs announced the contract and a person accustomed with the terms corroborated the financial details to the Associated Press (AP) on condition of obscurity. The extension will start in the 2026–27 season after the final year of point guard’s current five-year deal which is of $163 millions.
After bagging the notable contract, De’Aaron discussed Spurs’ rich pedigree. “Just being able to be part of an organization like this… you come in here and you feel that. You feel that in the environment. You feel that in the fans. And then you go into the practice facility or you go into the arena and you see those banners hanging… there’s nothing you can do besides try to build on that,” said De’Aaron in a comment shared by his side.
De’Aaron expected to shine in NBA’s new epoch
Before serving Spurs, De’Aaron was a vital member of Sacramento Kings from 2017 to 2025. Playing for Sacramento, he averaged 21.5 points and 6.1 assists per game. In the previous edition of the NBA, he averaged 19.7 points and 6.8 assists before leaving the tournament for undergoing surgery on his left hand.
His Spurs stint got curtailed in March when he was forced to miss his presence in the last games of the season. He went through a surgery to repair the extensor tendon in his left pinky finger.
