India’s ‘Golden Boy’ Neeraj Chopra continued his brilliant run as he finished second to begin his Diamond League campaign in Doha. The Olympic and world champion missed the gold by a margin of 0.02m with his best throw coming of 88.36m in his final effort.
The 26-year-old trailed by two centrimeters to Jakub Vadlejch of Czech Republic on Friday, May 10 at the Doha Diamond League event. While Chopra failed to defend the Doha Diamond League after he secured a win with a throw of 88.67m ahead of Vadlejch (88.63m) and Anderson Peters (85.88m) last year.
Kishore Jena suffers elimination on Diamond league debut
Neeraj Chopra’s compatriot and Asian Games 2023 silver medallist, Kishore Jena had a disappointing start to his Diamond League campaign. The 28-year-old Jena suffered elimination after three rounds with 76.31m being his best throw. The Asian Games silver medallist kickstarted his debut with a75.72m throw and then fouled on his second attempt. In his third attempt, he came up with a 76.31m throw but finished ninth overall among 10 competitors.
The Indian duo will next move on two produced a better record with the next Diamond League scheduled to be held in Paris on July 7.
