After a hectic 2-week schedule in the T20 World Cup 2022, four teams - New Zealand, England, India and Pakistan have qualified for the semi-finals. New Zealand is entering the T20 World Cup semi-finals for the 4th time while Pakistan is entering the semis for the 6th time. 

New Zealand have qualified for men's T20 WC semi-finals in 2007, 2016, 2021 & 2022 while Pakistan have qualified in the men's T20 WC semi-finals in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2012, 2021 and 2022.  Here in this article, we will have a look at how these two teams have performed in past T20 World Cup knock-out (semi-final) games.

1. New Zealand vs Pakistan in 2007 T20 WC

New Zealand and Pakistan faced each other in 2007 T20 WC semi-final in Cape Town. Pakistan defeated New Zealand successfully by 6 wickets (7 balls to be spared) with the help of brilliant fifty from Imran Nazir and a finish to remember from skipper Shoaib Malik.

Pakistan however lost the final game against India by just 5 runs in inaugural edition of T20 WC and ended up as runners-up of the T20 World Cup 2007.

2. Pakistan vs South Africa in 2009 T20 WC

Pakistan managed to beat South Africa in semi-final game by just 7 runs in Nottingham with the help of brilliant all-round performance from Shahid Afridi. Notably, Pakistan has maintained 100 percent win record against South Africa in men's T20 WC till now.

Later, Pakistan went on to lift the 2009 T20 WC trophy by defeating Sri Lanka in the final game.

3. Pakistan vs Australia in 2010 T20 WC

Pakistan for the first time lost a semi-final game in T20 WC and couldn't make it to the next stage of tournament. The Men in Green lost to mighty Aussies by 3 wickets at Gros Islet ground in St. Lucia. Michael Hussey's heroics helped Australia to chase down 70 runs in last 5 overs to seal a spot in final of 2010 T20 World Cup.

4. Sri Lanka vs Pakistan in 2012 T20 WC

Pakistan lost the 2012 semi-final game to the host nation Sri Lanka by a margin of 16 runs in Colombo (RPS). Pakistan batters failed to read the spin bowling attack of Rangana Herath and Ajantha Mendis and failed short of reaching a target in a low scoring game.

New Zealand lost T20 WC semi-final for 2nd time after the inaugural edition (2007) to England by 7 wickets in Delhi. New Zealand bowlers had no answers to Jason Roy's stunning show as they lost this game with almost 3 overs to be spared in 2nd innings of the game.

7. Pakistan vs Australia in 2021 T20 WC

Pakistan lost a thrilling semi-final match to Australia once again after 2010 as the finisher Matthew Wade helped his side to chase down 37 runs in just 2 overs (with an over to spare). He smashed a hat-trick of sixes in Shaheen Afridi's 19th over to help the side take the trophy home.
