Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced financial support to players from the state who are set to participate in the upcoming Asian Games 2023. As per the announcement, each Asian Games bound player from the state will receive INR 10 Lakh each to support their training and participation in the upcoming prestigious tournament. 

There are 13 athletes from Odisha who will participate in the Asian Games 2023. They include players like: Kishore Jena in athletics; Anshika Bharati, Ritu Kaudi and Sonali Swain in rowing; Anupama Swain in Ju-Jitsu; Neha Devi Leichondam in Kayaking and Canoeing; Pyari Xaxa in football; Deep Grace Ekka and Amit Rohidas in hockey and Dumuni Marndi, Tarulata Naik, Mama Naik and Hupi Majhi in rugby.

CM Patnaik extended good luck to the players and expressed hope that the incentive will help them to train and perform in a better way. Notably, the 19th edition of the Asian Games is set to take place in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8. 

This particular edition of the continental showpiece was originally due to be held in 2022 before being postponed due to Covid-19. The forthcoming contest will also serve as Olympic qualifiers with Paris 2024 quota available in sports like archery, artistic swimming, boxing, hockey, etc.
