Oleksandr Zinchenko, the Ukrainian left-back, is reportedly expected to leave Arsenal in the summer transfer window amid interest from Borussia Dortmund. The 28-year-old hasn’t been a regular starter for Arsenal in quite some time, losing his spot at left-back to teenage sensation Myles Lewis-Skelly, while Riccardo Calafiori, who made his arrival to the club last summer, has made it difficult for him to play consistently in the team as well.
Notably, as per the report from Football Insider, Borussia Dortmund had worked on a deal to sign Oleksandr Zinchenko during the January transfer window, but they couldn’t find success in signing him. The senior correspondent of the aforementioned sports news website has now revealed that the Ukrainian is likely to “move on” from the club after the conclusion of the season, with the German club still harbouring interest to sign him.
Arsenal might let go Oleksandr Zinchenko to raise funds to bolster their squad for next season
After failing to win the Premier League title for third successive season despite being one of the best teams in the competition, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is looking to bolster his squad with new signings, to challenge for the trophy once again. With that, Oleksandr Zinchenko is likely to become surplus to requirements, and selling him will allow them to raise funds as well.
Moreover, Oleksandr Zinchenko has made 20 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions this season, scoring a goal and providing one assist, but his number of minutes on the pitch have been just 713 thus far. Although the Ukrainian has made only four starts in the Premier League this season, he has also played a few games in the midfield for them instead of preferred left-back position due to injuries to few of the key players in the squad.
