Olympic Esports Games 2025 postponed

According to SportsBusiness, the Olympic Esports Games 2025 has been postponed due to the IOC needing more time to establish a proper structure for the esports events, as it is significantly different from traditional sports and requires a new hosting and financial model. The timeline to host the esports games was tight, and game publishers also had raised their concerns over the tight timeline, as the title that was supposed to be played at the event was not confirmed, and the qualification methods, dates, and venues were also not decided.

The Olympic Esports Games are now expected to take place in 2026 or 2027 with an established structure for the event. However, the exact timeline has not been revealed.

In July 2024, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the inaugural Olympic Esports Games in Saudi Arabia in 2025. The decision followed the proposal by the IOC's Executive Board and will be presented at the IOC Session in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The IOC entered a 12-year partnership with the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Saudi Arabia to host the Olympic Esports Games.

Fans now need to wait for more to see the first-ever Olympic Esports Game, as the official dates are yet to be finalized. The Indian teams for the Esports Games were supposed to be selected from the National Esports Championship, which is set to be played in June 2025 in Bihar.
