Former South African skipper AB de Villiers achieved an historic feat during an ODI match against West Indies at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg on January 18, 2015. The right-hander surpassed New Zealand’s Corey Anderson, to smash the fastest-ever ODI hundred of all-time. De Villiers completed his hundred in just 31 balls, and scored a fiery 149 runs off just 44 balls as South Africa defeated West Indies by 148 runs.

Batting first, South Africa posted a mammoth total of 439/2 in their 50 overs with Hashim Amla, Rilee Rossouw, and Ab de Villiers coming up with respective hundreds. In reply, West Indies could only score 291 runs losing seven wickets as the Proteas took a lead of 2-0 in a three-match series. De Villiers was awarded player of the match for his fiery knock.

Batting first, South Africa got a great start as Hashim Amla and Rilee Rossouw put up an opening partnership of 247 runs in 38.3 overs. Rossouw got out after scoring 128(115), hitting 11 fours and two sixes. After that, Ab de Villiers joined Amla at the crease, and took charge against the bowlers. The South African skipper started off his innings with a boundary, and smashed the Windies bowlers all over the park. De Villiers reached his ton in just 31 balls, and broke the previous year’s record of Corey Anderson, who got a hundred in just 36 balls in 2014.

Ab de Villiers got out after scoring 149(44) runs with nine fours and 16 sixes. Apart from that, Hashin Amla remained unbeaten on 153*(142) runs, hitting 14 boundaries as South Africa posted their highest-ever total in ODI cricket. After that, the Proteas bowlers did their part well as West Indies fell short of the target by 148 runs.
