The strong-looking Australian side was bundled out for 91 runs in a Test match against India at Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) Stadium in Nagpur on February 11, 2023. This also turned out to be Australia’s lowest-ever Test total on Indian soil. India were scheduled to host Australia for four Test matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in 2023. On their mission to retain the BGT again, India had a dominant start to the series with a convincing win in Nagpur.
Talking about the match, batting first, Australia were bowled out for 177 runs in the first innings. Marnus Labuschagne was top scorer with 49(123), hitting eight boundaries. Apart from that, Steve Smith, Alex Carey, and Peter Handscomb also contributed with 37 runs, 36 runs and 31 runs respectively. For India, Ravindra Jadeja shone with the figures of 5/47, while Ravichandran Ashwin took three scalps and Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami scalped a wicket each.
Rohit Sharma smashed 9th Test 100 as India dominated Australia in Nagpur Test in 2023
In reply to Australia’s 177 runs, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma led from the front and went on to score his ninth Test hundred as India posted 400 runs taking a lead of 223 runs in the first innings. The opening batters scored 120(215) runs, hitting 15 fours and two sixes. Along with Rohit, Axar Patel also smashed his highest Test score of 84(174) runs, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed with 70(185) runs as India reached the 400-run mark.
After taking a big lead in the first innings, the Indian bowlers did their job again in the second innings as well. This time, Ravichandran Ashwin took a five-wicket haul as Australia were bowled out for a mere 91 runs, their lowest ever Test total in India. The Indian team won the match by an innings and 132 runs with Jadeja winning player of the match for his all-round performance.
