Delhi Capitals went on to put their highest–ever total in the IPL in a match against Mumbai Indians at Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 27, 2024. The hosts posted a mammoth total of 257 runs for the loss of four wickets in their 20 overs. However, MI also gave a tough fight as they posted 247 runs losing nine wickets in their 20 overs as DC won a high-scoring thriller by just 10 runs.
Coming to bat first after losing the toss, DC got a flying start as Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel added 114 runs for the first wicket in just 7.3 overs. McGurk got out after smashing 84 runs off 27 balls, hitting 11 fours and six sixes, while Porel scored 36 off 27 balls with three fours and a six. In the middle-order, Shai Hope scored quickfire 41(17) runs smashing five sixes, while skipper Rishabh Pant scored 29(19) runs. After that, Tristan Stubbs gave finishing touches with an unbeaten 48*(25) runs, hitting six fours and two sixes as DC crossed the 250-run mark. For MI, Jasprit Bumrah, Luke Wood, Piyush Chawla and Mohammad Nabi scalped a wicket each.
MI gave tough fight to DC chasing 258 runs
Chasing a huge target of 258 runs, Mumbai Indians were reduced to 65/3 after six overs. After that, Tilak Varma and skipper Hardik Pandya added to put up a partnership of 71 runs for the fourth wicket. Tilak got out after scoring 63 runs off 32 balls, hitting four fours and as many sixes, while Pandya scored 46(24) runs with four fours and three sixes.
After the partnership was broken, MI tried to cross the finishing line but fell short of DC’s total by just 10 runs. Tim David scored a quickfire 37(17) runs, hitting two fours and three sixes. In the end, MI could only post 247/9 in their 20 overs. For DC, Mukesh Kumar and Rasikh Salam took three wickets each, while Khaleed Ahmed put two in his bag.
