On June 1, 1985, Former India wicketkeeper batter Dinesh Karthik was born in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu. He made his debut for Tamil Nadu as an u-14 player in 1999. Talking about his First-Class debut, it happened in 2002/03. His years of diligence in the domestic circuit helped him break into international cricket with his One-Day International (ODI) debut against England in September 2004 at the iconic Lord’s in London. After two months, he also featured in India whites for the first time with his appearance against Australia in a Test match played at the distinguished Wankhede Stadium. Karthik was also a part of Team India’s Cricket World Cup 2007 and T20 World Cup 2007 squads.

In the 2009/10 season, he led Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy and under his leadership, the side concluded their campaign in quarter-finals. Discussing his performance, he scored 443 runs in eight innings of six matches. Against Orissa in Sambalpur, he smashed 152. In 2023, he retired from international cricket after serving India in 180 international matches. Discussing his numbers, he has scored 3463 runs in 169 innings across all formats.

Dinesh Karthik’s illustrious IPL career

Dinesh Karthik played IPL for 16 years from 2008 to 2024 and during this period, he represented six teams. He played a vital role in Mumbai Indians (MI) maiden title success in 2013. Appearing in 19 matches, he scored 510 runs with a couple of fifties. He ended up as the second-leading run-getter for Mumbai in the season.

infographics 2 From 2018 to 2021, he also captained Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and playing his debut season for the team, he looked impressive with his bat and racked up 498 runs in 16 games at a strike rate of 147.77. Currently, he is a part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) camp as batting coach. His last appearance as a player came for Challengers in the 2024 edition of the league.
