On December 22, 2017, Indian opener Rohit Sharma smashed the joint-fastest hundred in T20I against Sri Lanka. The Indian batter completed his century in just 35 balls and played an innings of 118 runs in only 43 deliveries. During his knock, Sharma hit a total of 12 boundaries and 10 sixes. With this knock, Sharma joined the likes of South African batter David Miller, who had brought up his century in just 35 balls against Bangladesh a few weeks prior to Rohit’s achievement.

Sharma guided the Men in Blue to a massive total of 260/5 after the side was asked to bat first at the Holkar Stadium in Indore. During the match, KL Rahul also played a knock of 89 runs off 49 balls. In return, India restricted the visitors to 172 all out. The match saw Yuzvendra Chahal picking a total of four wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav finished with three wickets.

I was trying to do what I always try and do: Rohit Sharma

Sharma was awarded the Player of the Match Award, and in the post-match presentation, he said, The stage was set. Good conditions to bat. Was trying to do what I always try to do - hit through the line. It's something I've been working on through the last few months. Went out there and had some fun. That's too much to ask (going for double hundred). No target here is defendable so we wanted to get as many as possible.”

He added, “There's a certain template to my batting. Don't try to overhit too much. Rely on my timing and hold my shape. Had a lot of faith in the wrist-spinners. They've always brought us back into the matches. These two guys never put their heads down. Rather than being too defensive, they're prepared to flight the ball to take wickets.”
