Before these tours, PCB made significant changes to their team structure based on the poor performance in the ODI World Cup 2023. Babar Azam stepped down as the captain from across formats, making way for Shaan Maqsood as the Test and Shaheen Afridi as the T20I captain.

One captain for all formats and no vice-captain:  Shahid Afridi

Addressing these changes,  Shahid Afridi expressed the need to have one all-format captain and avoid issues among the team. As quoted by NDTV,  Afridi said,  “The PCB must have one captain for all formats and there is no need to have a vice-captain. This will give a clear message to all players who are in charge.”

Don't think this is the time to make any changes: Shahid Afridi

The leg-spinning all-rounder further asked the board to give time to the new leadership group which includes Mohammad Hafeez and the new captains. Afridi wants the team to focus on the upcoming T20 World Cup and allow the current squad to settle and improve as a unit.

“If you think Mohammad Hafeez is good then don't just judge him on one series give him proper time and the same should apply to the captain as well he should be there for three years. The World T20 Cup is going to be a very tough tournament this year with some very strong teams in the hunt for the title.

"I also don't think this is the time to make any changes in the format squad.   We just need to continue with the same group of players and give them confidence. But yes I would like to see Fakhar Zaman and Saim Ayub open the batting in T20s,” he added.
