On Wednesday, February 19, in the opening match of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, Will Young scored his fourth ODI hundred of his New Zealand career, to put his team in a strong position against hosts Pakistan at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi. The right-handed batter reached the three-figure mark in 107 balls, keeping the New Zealand innings together after they lost a couple of early wickets, and it led to him receiving a lot of appreciation from fans on the social media platform X.
The milestone moment for Will Young came in the 35th over of the New Zealand innings after he swept Abrar Ahmed towards the deep square region for a run before calmly celebrating it alongside non-striker Tom Latham. With that, he became the fourth batter after Nathan Astle, Chris Cairns, and teammate Kane Williamson to score a hundred for Black Caps in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Earlier, New Zealand had three of their most experienced batters in Devon Conway, Kane Williamson, and Daryl Mitchell lose their wickets for a low score, and it meant that they were 73/3 in the 17th over with Will Young at the crease, joined by Tom Latham. Since then, these two batters have shared an unbeaten stand of 118 runs and counting for the fourth wicket, to send them well on their way to reaching an above par total.
