The Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) registered their third consecutive defeat in IPL 2024 from five games so far. After being invited to bat first, the RCB posted 183 runs on the board, courtesy an unbeaten 113-run knock from Virat Kohli and a 33-ball 44 from the skipper.
Despite Kohli’s ton, which was his eighth in the IPL history, he faced criticism for his slow knock. Despite his all-important knock, fan and critics questioned Kohli’s strike rate. Former Pakistan cricketer Junaid Khan trolled the Indian batter for hi “slowest century in the history of IPL”.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Junaid Khan wrote, “Congratulations Virat Kohli on the slowest 100 in the history of IPL”.
Here’s a list of slowest centuries in IPL history:
Virat Kohli 100 off 67 balls vs RR in 2024
Manish Pandey 100 off 67 balls vs Deccan Chargers in 2009
Sachin Tendulkar 100 off 66 ball vs Kochi Tuskers Kerala in 2011
David Warner 100 off 6 balls vs KKR in 2010
Jos Buttler 100 off 66 balls vs MI in 2022
Kevin Pietersen 100 off 64 balls vs Deccan Chargers in 2012
It is to be noted that Virat Kohli’s 113 off 72 balls consisted of 12 boundaries and four maximums. He reached his 100 at the strike rate of 156.94. Moreover, Kohli’s knock made him the joint-slowest in the history of IPL, equalling Manish Pandey’s 67-ball ton.
The RCB will next take on five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday, April 11.
