The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has taken massive steps post the team’s dismal performance at the ODI World Cup 2023 in India. The Babar Azam-led side finished fifth in the standings and made their exit post their 93-run loss against England in their final league stage fixture. However, after the World Cup debacle, the PCB sacked the entire coaching staff of the Pakistan men’s cricket team and Babar Azam also stepped down from the captaincy roles across all three formats.

However, with the board aiming to build a new image with new faces leading the side across formats, the Pakistan Cricket Board is also picturing things for the 2024 edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL). As reported by the PCB, the PSL Governing Council held a meeting on Tuesday, 14th November at the National Cricket Academy in Lahore with the PCB Chairman, Zaka Ashraf.
All six franchise representatives were present in the meeting where the tentative schedule of the PSL 9 draft was also spoken about. With the general elections also set to take place in February 2024, there were discussions on moving the tournament outside of the Asian country, either to UAE or to South Africa. However, the board clarified that the final statement on the same will be disclosed once the dates are finalised after the consent with the government.
“With the general election announced to take place in February 2024, it was unanimously agreed that formal advice be expeditiously sought from the government of Pakistan concerning finalising the exact dates for the HBL PSL9,” the statement of PCB read.
It is to be noted that the Pakistan Super League is usually held between mid-February and mid-March. The early editions of the T20 tournament were held in UAE as no teams were willing to play in Pakistan due to security concerns but the tournament moved back to the continent in 2021 and was held in Pakistan even during COVID-19.
