In a shocking turn of events, Pakistan’s top snooker player Majid Ali passed away after committing suicide. The incident occurred in Ali’s home town of Samundri near Faisalabad in Punjab on Thursday. Majid was reportedly dealing with depression since his playing days and ended his life by using a wood-cutting machine, as per police. 


Majid Ali has represented Pakistan across many international events and was a top-ranked player on the national circuit. Addressing this horrifying incident, Majid’s brother Umar talked about how he was suffering from depression since his teenage years. Umar also revealed that Majid had another event regarding his mental health.  


"It is a horrifying thing for us because we never expected he would take his own life," said Umar. Alamgir Sheikh, the Pakistan Billiards and Snooker chairman spoke about how the snooker community in Pakistan. "He had so much talent and was young and we expected so much from him to bring laurels for Pakistan," he said.


He is the second snooker player to die in the space of a month after international snooker player, Muhammad Bilal died after suffering a cardiac arrest. Snooker was growing in popularity in Pakistan and emerged as a high-profile sport with stars like Muhammad Yousuf and Muhammad Asif, who won World and Asian Championship titles.
