Indian tennis ace Rohan Bopanna and his Australian partner Matthew Ebden finished as runners-up in the Paris Masters 2023 men’s doubles. With their defeat in the ATP 1000 event, the Indo-Australian pair missed the chance of becoming the World Number 1 pair in the men’s doubles.
The third-seeded pair lost to the seventh-ranked Mexican-French duo of Santiago Gonzalez and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 2-6, 7-5, [7-10] in the summit clash that lasted for an hour and 30 minutes. The victory would have helped the pair to overtake the Croatian-American pair of Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek at the number one spot of the ATP men’s doubles team rankings.
The Paris Masters defeat marks their fifth loss as finalists for the pair. Bopanna and Ebden also finished as finalists in Rotterdam, Madrid, Shanghai and at the US Open. Their partnership began in Adelaide at the beginning of 2023 and got their first success by winning an ATP 250 event in Doha.
Not only this, but the pair also clinched the Indian Wells title, where the 43-year-old Indian tennis icon became the oldest ATP Masters 1000 winner. The pair is set to compete at the season-ending ATP Finals which is set to take place from November 12 to 19.
