India’s Parul Chaudhary suffered a heartbreaking result at the 2024 Paris Olympics in the women’s 3000m steeplechase qualification on Sunday, August 4. The Indian athlete finished eighth in the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Stade de France and bowed out of the competition.
However, she couldn’t earn a qualification in the final of the women’s 3000m steeplechase but registered her season best timing of 9:23.39. Although, this timing wasn’t sufficient to help her enter the final of the event.
The defending Olympic champion, Peruth Chemutai of Uganda won the Heat 1 with a timing of 9:10.51, while Faith Cherotich of Kenya (9:10.57) and Gesa Felicitas Krause (9:10.68) from Germany finished second and third respectively.
This brought an end to Parul Chaudhary’s campaign at the Paris 2024. The 29-year-old earlier failed to qualify for the women’s 5000m race along with Ankita Dhyani. Lalita Barbar is the only Indian women to qualify for the final round of the Olympics. Babar achieved this feat at the 2016 Rio Olympics, where she eventually finished 10th.
It is to be noted that Parul Chaudhary holds the national record in women’s 3000m steeplechase, which she set at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. The Indian athlete finished 11th, clocking 9:51.31. She also is a double medallist at the 2023 Asian Games in Hangzhou.
