An Egyptian Olympic wrestler Mohamed ‘Kesho’ Ibrahim has been arrested at Paris Olympics 2024 for an alleged sexual assault. The French Police arrested the grappler in the early hours of Friday, August 9, outside of a cafe in Paris. According to the Paris prosecutor’s office, the wrestler was arrested for allegedly touching another customer’s back inappropriately. The prosecutors also stated that an enquiry has been launched in the matter.

After the incident, the Egyptian Olympic Committee announced that the wrestler would face a disciplinary hearing. If the charges are proven to be correct, then he could face severe consequences including a lifetime ban from the quadrennial tournament. Notably, the wrestler was granted permission to witness the last wrestling contest in the category, but he failed to make it to the mission headquarters and switched off his phone, as per the statement.

The official statement by the EOC read, "If the allegations are substantiated, the wrestler will face permanent suspension and will be barred from participating in both domestic and international competitions,"

Notably, Kesho was a bronze medal winner at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. In the 2024 edition, he was beaten by Azerbaijan's Hasrat Jafarov in the first round of the men's 67kg Greco-Roman wrestling. Not only this, he won the gold medal in the category at the 2019 African Games and the 2019 Military World Games. In addition to this, he was also named as the best U-23 wrestler by the United World Wrestling Association.
