On Tuesday, July 30, the Indian men’s hockey team defeated Ireland comfortably by 2-0 in their third Pool B match at the Paris Olympics 2024. At the Stade Yves-du-Manoir, the captain of India, Harmanpreet Singh found his name on the scoresheet once again at Paris 2024, scoring two goals against an impressive Irish men’s hockey team.

In the first quarter of the men’s hockey Pool B match, India started on the front foot with crisp attacking play, putting the Irish under some pressure. Mandeep Singh got tackled roughly inside the final third in the 11th minute, earning a penalty stroke, which was converted by the Indian captain, Harmanpreet Singh, to make it a 1-0 scoreline.

The second quarter saw Harmanpreet Singh put India in a 2-0 lead after converting the fourth penalty corner of the match for the team. The Indians didn’t allow any real opportunity to Ireland to get a clear sight at their goal in the first 30 minutes.

During the latter half of the third quarter, Ireland started to play some enterprising hockey, putting the Indian defence under exceeding pressure. The Irish attackers earned a who pping eight penalty corners in one half alone, but the Indian defenders held firm to keep their 2-0 advantage intact.

Both India and Ireland created a couple of penalty corners in the fourth quarter of the match, but they failed to convert them into goals. With that, the Indian men’s hockey team cruised to a 2-0 victory in Pool B, earning seven points in three matches thus.
