Indian star boxer Lovlina Borgohain suffered a 1-4 loss via split decision against Li Qian of China in the quarterfinal of the Women's 75kg event at the Paris Olympics 2024. Qian was touted as one of the favourites at the Summer Games as she is the Tokyo 2020 Olympics silver medalist and the 2016 Rio Olympics bronze medalist.
At the Arena Paris Nord in Villepinte, Lovlina Borgohain landed the first punch but was on the back foot, with Qian throwing some mighty blow which the Indian fended away well. But a combination of three straight jabs and an uppercut tipped Round 1 in the Chinese star's favour.
The second round saw the Indian pugilist being under constant pressure before launching an assault of jabs towards the end with a 3-2 margin. But this round win was in vain as Li Qian showed off her superiority to win the bout via a split overall decision of 4-1.
Before this clash, the Tokyo 2024 bronze medalist who fights in the 75 kg category took down, Hofastad Sunniva of Norway. The 26-year-old boxer from Assam was given a direct pre-quarterfinal entry in the 33rd edition of the multi-sporting spectacle. The Indian boxer set her dominance right from the beginning and took down her counterpart with the score-line of 5-0.
