The dynamic Indian duo of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty got off to a winning start at the Paris Olympics 2024 on Saturday, July 27. The shuttlers, who are one of India’s gold medal prospects at the global multi-sporting tournament, took down the French duo of Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar in their men’s doubles Group C match.
The reigning Asian Games champions registered an easy win over their rivals in two straight sets of 21-17, 21-14 in a one-sided encounter that lasted for 46 minutes. The pair from host nation fought hard and received constant support from the home crowd; however, the Sat-Chi pair eventually sailed through. In their next match scheduled on July 29, the third-seeded Indian pair will be up against Germany’s Marvin Seidel and Mark Lamsfuss.
Notably, the duo has been one of the biggest reasons for India’s recent achievements in badminton. Satwik and Chirag have played a significant role in India’s historic Thomas Cup win in 2022. The shuttlers have not only been consistent on the BWF World Tour and clinched titles from Super 100 to Super 1000 level. Not only this, but they have also scripted history and did things not other Indian men’s doubles team has done before.
Satwik and Chirag have won a World Championships bronze, an Asian Games gold, Asian Championships title and the World No.1 ranking. Earlier, Lakshya Sen also got off to a winning start and started India’s badminton campaign at the 33rd Summer Olympics on a high.
