On Monday, September 2, Indian para shuttler Suhas Yathiraj had to settle for silver medal in the men’s singles badminton SL4 event after losing the final to Lucas Mazur of France at the Paris Paralympics 2024. At the La Chapelle Arena Court 1, Suhas Yathiraj was no match to the Frenchman, who defeated him in straight games 9-21, 13-21.
Notably, this was the second straight final between Suhas Yathiraj and Lucas Mazur in the men’s singles badminton SL4 event at the Paralympic Games. Just three years ago in Tokyo, Yathraj was also on the receiving end of a defeat against Mazur, but that time around, their final went the distance, with the eventual scoreline reading 21-15, 17-21, 15-21.
With the tough defeat in the final at the Paris, Suhas Yathiraj, 41, now has two silver medals in two straight Paralympic Games. It is important to remember that the veteran para shuttler won the World Championship title in Pattaya earlier this year after defeating Indonesian Fredy Setiawan in the straight games 21-18, 21-18.
Earlier, on day five of the Paris Paralympic Games 2024, India won the gold medal in para badminton when Nitesh Kumar defeated Daniel Bethell in the final of men’s singles badminton SL3 event in a three-game match. After winning the first game in a comfortable manner, Kumar was stretched till the end by Bethell, with the eventual scoreline reading 21-14, 18-21, 23-21.
Moreover, in the bronze medal match of the men’s singles badminton SL4 event, Sukant Kadam is set to take on the Indonesian Fredy Setiawan.
