Paris Saint-Germain has issued a new demand to their superstar forward Kylian Mbappe: sign a new deal within two weeks, or leave. President of PSG Nasser Al-Khelaifi publicly stated the ultimatum during a recent press conference, and fans of PSG will be following the news closely in the following weeks to see where the French international’s future lies.

Mbappe’s career at PSG has been clouded with uncertainty since the club’s exit from the 22/23 Champions League campaign at the hands of Bayern Munich in March. Despite signing a new contract only last year, the 24-year-old informed PSG at the end of this season that he will not be renewing with the Paris club and will leave on a free transfer come the end of his current deal in the summer of 2024.

Mbappe’s intention to run down his current deal came as a shock to top PSG officials, and especially to president Al-Khelaifi who said of the situation, “I was shocked to learn that he intended to leave for free. It’s very disappointing because Kylian is a fantastic lad, a real gentleman, and to leave for free, by weakening the biggest French club, is not him. When I received this information, I was shocked and disappointed.”

The saga was quickly mired with links between Mbappe and Real Madrid. The forward was close to joining the Spanish giants last summer before being convinced to sign a new deal at PSG, being promised not only an incredible amount of money but also the ability to retain his image rights and be a cornerstone of PSG’s footballing project going forward. Since then Mbappe seems to have fallen out with the French club’s management and is setting his sights elsewhere.

PSG are determined to not allow Mbappe to leave on a free. Having already failed to renegotiate a new deal with Lionel Messi, the French club are desperate to hold on to Mbappe and Al-Khelaifi said it was “impossible” that the “best player in the world” would leave for free. The club wants to cash in on Mbappe this summer and would be able to recoup an astronomical fee for a player who is already among the greatest players in the world at just 24 years of age.

Mbappe joined PSG in 2017 for a fee that eventually totalled nearly 180 million euros. Since then he has been instrumental in their road to multiple Ligue 1 and Coupe de France titles.
