Pep Guardiola spoke to the media on Friday, February 21, ahead of his team’s clash with Liverpool in the Premier League on Sunday. Amongst all the different questions posed at Guardiola by the reporters, one particular was about comparisons between Mohamed Salah and Omar Marmoush; one of Man City’s latest signings in the winter transfer window.

Marmoush arrived at Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt boasting a solid record of 35 goals in his overall tenure in the Bundesliga. He plays alongside Mo Salah in the Egyptian national team. Guardiola responded to these questions by praising Mo Salah and how he has performed exceptionally well at the top level in what is supposedly the toughest football league in the world. He also said how Omar Marmoush would have a point to prove here with his quality and solid record in German football backing him up.

Manchester City who recently were handed defeat by Real Madrid in the round of 16 playoff tie of the Champions League will have some tough matches coming up.

Big challenges ahead for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City

They will face Liverpool at home on Sunday, who are currently in red-hot form sitting atop the Premier League table, and having also topped the Champions League group stage. This iconic clash in the PL has always attracted eyeballs from around the world and promises to be a spectacular game of football but this time around it will prove to be more challenging for Pep Guardiola. Their immediate next fixture in the League is away from home against Tottenham Hotspurs which will also be a complicated tie.

Injury woes have only added to the problems at Guardiola’s disposal. Key defenders like Manuel Akanji and John Stones both have suffered injuries while the availability of Erling Haaland remains questionable. In such a scenario, the new signings made by City in the winter transfer window like Omar Marmoush and Nico Gonzalez will get a chance to prove their mettle.
