Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, has stated that he will take a break from football management after leaving Manchester City, but at the same time, he doesn’t know when his retirement will be. It was last November when the 54-year-old had signed a two-year contract extension with Manchester City, extending his stay at the club until June 2027, and by then, he will be in charge of them for 11 years.
Before his time at Manchester City as the manager began, Pep Guardiola managed Barcelona for four years before joining Bayern Munich for three years. All in all, the managerial career of the Spaniard has been filled with trophies at all the three clubs he managed, including league, cup, and European silverware, making him one of the greatest managers in football history.
I didn't say I'm leaving now or at the end of season or the end of contract: Pep Guardiola
While speaking to ESPN, Pep Guardiola spoke at length about his future at Manchester City and beyond in the world of football management, which might not last for long as far as his statement is concerned. He was quoted as saying, “After my contract with City, I'm going to stop. I'm sure. I don't know if I'm going to retire, but I'm going to take a break.”
After the rumours swirled around in regards to Pep Guardiola potentially leaving football management sooner rather than later, he ended up making a clarification to Sky Sports in a statement on Friday. He remarked, “I didn't say I'm leaving now or at the end of season or the end of contract. I said when I finish my time here, be it one, two, three, four, five years, I will take a break.”
“I won't retire but I will take a break. What I am saying is when I am finished here I will take a break,” he added.
