The International Tennis Integrity Agency on Friday stated that the Romanian tennis player Petru-Alexandru Luncanu had been found guilty of match-fixing and had been given a five-year suspension along with a $40,000 fine. In an anti-corruption hearing, five of the seven match-fixing charges the ITIA presented against Luncanu were found to be true, according to the organisation.
These charges involved "contriving the outcome or any other aspect of several matches, and directly or indirectly facilitating tennis wagering." In a second case, the 34-year-old Luncanu was found guilty of failing to fully assist with the ITIA investigation by refusing to allow the examination of his phone.
With his current age being 34, it is unlikely that he will make a comeback in professional tennis after a five-year suspension. He achieved his career-high ranking of 304 in November 2009 and his latest ranking as of December 2009 was 1724. He had the most successful run on clay courts, with his highest success rate of 60%, followed by hard courts at 57%. He was coached by Ady Ayram throughout his career and he won a total of $155,975 through prize money rewards in his career.
