Australia found themselves in a strong position against India by the end of day three of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Gabba in Brisbane. After Travis Head and Steve Smith shone on day two with respective centuries, wicketkeeper Alex Carey did the remaining job on day three as Australia were bowled out for 445 runs in the first innings. In reply, India lost early wicket and are currently at 51/4 before the play on day three was suspended due to bad light. 

Batting first, Travis Head scored another ton in the ongoing series and top scored with 152(160), while Steve Smith also got his form back and contributed with a knock of 101(190) runs.  After that, Alex Carey took the innings further as Australia crossed the 400-run mark.

Alex Carey put up a partnership of 58 runs with skipper Pat Cummins (20 off 33). After that, he added another 38 runs with Mitchell Starc (18 off 30).  In the end, Carey also got out after scoring 70(88) runs as Australia scored 445 runs in the first innings. For India, it was Jasprit Bumrah again who turned out to be lone warrior for India registering figures of 6/76. Along with that, Mohammed Siraj took two wickets, while Akash Deep and Nitish Kumar Reddy scalped a  wicket each. 

In reply to Australia’s big total India had a disastrous start in the first innings as they lost three wickets for 22 runs in 7.2 overs, losing key players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Viray Kohli. After a few overs, Rishabh Pant also lost his wicket scoring mere nine runs. India are currently at 51/4 with KL Rahul batting at 30*(64) runs along with skipper Rohit Sharma who is yet to score his first run. India are still 394 runs behind Australia’’s first innings total.
