One of the greats of the game, Argentine international, Lionel Messi etched history during Inter Miami’s 5-1 win over New York Red Bulls in Harrison, New Jersey early on Sunday. Playing in Major League Soccer (MLS) for Inter Miami, captain, Lionel Messi continued his red-hot form, scoring his sixth brace in the past seven matches for his side.

Inter Miami, who are placed fifth in the MLS 2025 Eastern Conference at the moment, started on the backfoot with NY Red Bulls’ Alexander Hack putting them in lead with a 14th minute goal. However, the star-studded Inter Miami side was quick to respond with Jordi Alba levelling in the 24th minute. They continued their form as Telasco Segovia scored two, taking the lead to 3-1 at half-time.

With the Inter Miami side winning the game with much ease, he also surpassed his rival and one of the greats, Cristiano Ronaldo in the list of most non-penalty goals in football history. With a brace, Messi now has record-breaking 764 goals, one more than CR7’s previous best 763.

Notably, Messi has accomplished this feat it in 167 few matches than his Portuguese rival. It is to be noted that the Argentine drew level with Ronaldo’s goals in the 60 th minute, but took a lead with the 75 th minute goal, setting a new world record.
