On day two of the first Test of the two-match series, Pakistan spinners Noman Ali and Sajid Khan wreaked havoc, dismissing the West Indies batting lineup in their first innings for just 137 runs. After getting bowled out for 230 runs in their first innings, Pakistan bowlers had their task cut out, but with the pitch assisting the spinners more as day two went along, it didn’t took much time for the experienced duo of Noman Ali and Sajid Khan to run through West Indies with their five and four wickets respectively.
West Indies could only bat for 25.2 overs in their first innings against Pakistan in Multan despite the fact that the last three batters in the lineup scored most of the runs. At one stage in their batting effort, West Indies were 66/8 in just 15.4 overs before Jomel Warrican (31* off 24), Jayden Seales (22 off 13), and Gudakesh Motie (19 off 25) scored more than half the runs for their team out of 137 against the highly impressive Pakistan spin bowling attack, which also had Abrar Ahmed picking up a wicket.
Pakistan take 202-run lead over West Indies with seven wickets in hand at close of play on day two
Earlier, Pakistan began proceedings on day two at the score of 143/4 in their first innings, and Saud Shakeel (84 off 157) and Mohammed Rizwan (71 off 133) took them to 187/4 before their final six wickets fell for just 43 runs. The spin trio of Jomel Warrican, Kevin Sinclair, and Gudakesh Motie took three, two, and one wicket each for West Indies, while fast bowler Jayden Seales was quite effective on day one with three wickets to his name in conditions which assisted the pacers a bit.
After taking a substantial first innings lead of 93 runs, Pakistan openers Shan Masood, the captain, and the debutant, Muhammad Hurraira gave a perfect start to the team with a 67-run stand in their second innings. Following the dismissal of Hurraira for 29 runs in 58 balls, Babar Azam didn’t last long at the crease as he lost his wicket for just five runs, and just before the bad light stopped play late on day two, Masood ran himself after going past his fifty.
At the close of play on day two, Pakistan reached 109/3 in their second innings at the Multan Cricket Stadium, taking a big lead of 202 runs with three days of play still remaining.
