On Tuesday, April 29, the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) defended the 204-run total and defeated the hosts, Delhi Capitals (DC) by 14 runs in match 48 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. Winning the toss, DC captain, Axar Patel invited the visitors to put the score first on the board. On the back of a decent start from the top order batters and a 32-ball 44 from Angkrish Raghuvanshi, KKR posted 204/9 in their allotted 20 overs.
While Mitchell Starc proved to be the wrecker in chief for the hosts, picking three wickets in the penultimate over, Vipraj Nigam and Axar Patel also chipped in with two wickets each. In the run chase, the KKR bowlers restricted DC at 190/9 in the 20 overs, courtesy a three wicket haul from Sunil Narine, along with two wickets from Varun Chakravarthy.
Sunil Narine equals world record with three-wicket haul in DC vs KKR
West Indies all-rounder, Sunil Narine, who has been a part of KKR since 2012, etched a new record, finishing with figures of 3/29 in his four-over spell. The legendary spinner equalled the world record of taking the most wickets for one team in T20 cricket as he completed 208 wickets in his 195th match for the Shah Rukh Khan co-owned franchise.
He equalled the record held by former England all-rounder Samit Patel with record 208 wickets. Samit Patel played 232 T20 matches for Nottinghamshire and dismissed 208 batters. On the other hand, Narine has accounted for the dismissal of 190 batters in 186 IPL matches and 18 batters in nine Champions League T20 matches for three-time champions.
