In a high-pressure playoff match, it was Suyash Sharma who stole the limelight with a brilliant bowling performance that dismantled Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) batting lineup in Qualifier 1 of IPL 2025. The young leg-spinner picked up 3 wickets for just 17 runs in his 3 overs, turning the game heavily in Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) favor. His variations, control, and fearless attitude under pressure stood out as he ripped through PBKS's middle order, proving his worth on the big stage.
Suyash’s spell came at a crucial moment, right after the powerplay, when PBKS looked to rebuild. He struck immediately, dismissing Shashank Singh and Musheer Khan in quick succession, halting any momentum Punjab tried to gather. His third wicket, that of Marcus Stoinis, showcased his composure and deceptive flight, as the batsman was completely undone. With this performance, Suyash not only strengthened his position in the RCB squad but also showcased the depth of young Indian talent in the league.
All-round brilliance leads RCB to IPL final after 9 years
The rest of RCB’s bowling unit rallied around Suyash’s brilliance. Josh Hazlewood, another standout performer, took 3 for 21 with his usual accuracy and bounce. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Romario Shepherd chipped in with wickets as well, collectively bowling out PBKS for a meagre 101 runs in just 14.1 overs. It was a complete bowling performance, led by Suyash’s fearless spell, that left Punjab Kings reeling and stunned in the biggest match of their season.
RCB chased down the target with ease, reaching 102 in 10 overs and winning by 8 wickets to seal their place in the IPL 2025 final. Phil Salt provided a fiery start, and despite the early loss of Virat Kohli and the rest of the batting order finished the job calmly. While the win was a collective effort, Suyash Sharma’s impactful spell set the tone for the entire match.
