Australian batter Travis Head came up with his eighth Test century during Day 2’s play of the second Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 Test. After India’s smooth 295-run win in the opening game, both sides came up against each other for a day/night game at the Adelaide Oval from December 6. The game saw Indian skipper Rohit Sharma winning the toss, and inviting the hosts to bowl first.

Australia got off to a fiery start with the ball, and bundled out their counterparts for 180 runs. In response, Travis Head went all guns blazing, and put together a remarkable knock of 140 runs off 141 balls to put home favourites in a commanding position with a total of 337 runs in their first innings. His knock was combined with 17 boundaries and four maximums as the Baggy Greens recorded a lead of 157 runs.

Travis Head records third century in day-night Test for Australia

Travis Head recorded his eighth Test century, and third hundred in a day/night game. He is one century behind Marnus Labuschagne who has the record for most pink-ball hundreds with four. With his ton, Head also broke the record for the fastest hundred in day-night Tests, and surpassed his own record of 112 balls against England in Hobart 2022. The 30-year-old celebrated the century with rock the cradle celebration as well as paid tribute to former compatriot Phil Hughes.

Head tapped his stomach, and then cradled his bat, gesturing towards his wife and newborn son, Harrison George Head, who were present at the stadium. Notably, Head and his wife Jess welcomed their second child George last month. Not only this, but he also continued his celebrations as he took off his helmet, and placed it on top of the handle of the bat to pay tribute to Hughes on his 10th death anniversary.
