The organising committee of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has changed the match timings of the tournament, in their bid to avoid the clash with the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. As per the PSL CEO, Salman Naseer, who was speaking in a podcast, the matches of the tournament will begin at 8:00 PM (PST), one hour after the IPL matches commence at 7:00 PM (PST).
Notably, the IPL is currently gathering steam in India after beginning on March 22 this year, and the PSL is scheduled to begin on April 11 with the opening match between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. These two prominent T20 franchise leagues are on a collision course, and in front of the might of Indian cricket, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have thought better about going head on against them.
Salman Naseer also spoke about how they had no other option but to host the PSL 2025 in the April and May months due to hosting the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in Pakistan in March and April, the traditional months for the league. He was quoted as saying, as per India Today, “It is not an ideal situation but we are confident that the PSL has its own fan base and will attract the usual eyeballs.”
PSL has always produced quality competitive cricket: Salman Naseer
“The PSL has always produced quality competitive cricket and this year also we should see the same and cricket fans anywhere, at the end of the day, just want to see competitive, entertaining matches,” he added. Furthermore, the PSL CEO also spoke about how having the same window with the IPL allowed them to sign the overseas players, who weren’t picked there in the auction or as replacement players yet.
Meanwhile, there has been inquiry made by interested parties to sign two news teams in the PSL for the next season, as revealed by Salman Naseer.
