The Rajasthan Royals are set to don a special jersey during their game against Mumbai Indians tonight as a tribute to their former captain, late Shane Warne. RR won their only IPL title under the leadership of the great Australian leg spinner in 2008 and since then Warne has been an integral part of the organisation.

These special Rajasthan Royals jerseys will have Shane Warne’s initials, ‘SW’ and his number ‘23’ embroidered on the collar. The Royals revealed these jerseys with a special video featuring all their players and a song called, By Your Side by Justin Prins, remembering the legend.

The Rajasthan Royals released a statement addressing this gesture where they talked about how they are celebrating their return to the DY Patil Stadium after winning their maiden IPL title 14 years ago. The statement also talked about how the team has also created a special Shane Warne mural and a  tribute gallery with unseen pictures and videos of the Spin King.

The statement said, “14 years after becoming the first-ever champions of the IPL, the Royals return to the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai once again, this time to celebrate the life and times of the man who led them there - Shane Warne. The First Royal, leader, mentor and an inspiration.”

“It is befitting that the Royals gather to celebrate Warne’s legacy at the very ground where he helped his team script history. To make the occasion even more special, we’ll be surrounded by his family, friends and fans - people who’ve had the privilege of knowing the Spin King up close or from a distance, but all impacted by his genius.”

“A special Shane Warne mural will greet fans and spectators as they enter the stadium premises on the matchday. There’s also a tribute gallery inside, where ticket-holders will be able to take a walk through the life of the greatest leg-spinner in the world through unseen pictures and videos.”

The Rajasthan Royals so far in the 2022 IPL have been among the best teams as they are second on the table. The 2008 champions have already played MI once this season where they registered a 23-run victory led by a scintillating century by Jos Butler.
