On Monday, April 7, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) captain, Rajat Patidar was handed a fine from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after his team was found guilty of maintaining slow over-rate during his team’s Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
Coming into the match after losing their previous game against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at their home ground, M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, they hammered the Mumbai-based franchise, making it their first instance to conquer MI at the Wankhede Stadium after a gap of ten years.

However, the victory would have surely tasted sweet for the Bengaluru-based franchise but their were handed sanctions from the IPL Advisory Committee for maintaining slow over-rate. “ Royal Challengers Bengaluru Captain Rajat Patidar has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match No. 21 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai,” the statement from the media read.
“As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.2 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Patidar was fined INR 12 lakhs,” the statement further added.
Speaking of match number 20 of the IPL 2025, Hardik Pandya-led MI won the toss and elected to bowl first. Thus putting the visitors to bat first, RCB posted 221 runs at the loss of five wickets in their 20 overs, courtesy 60-plus runs from Virat Kohli and skipper Rajat Patidar, along with an 19-ball unbeaten 40 from Jitesh Sharma. In pursuit of the 222-run target, MI looked in the game till the penultimate over, but as the wickets kept falling at key intervals, they eventually were handed a 12-run defeat.
