RCB have named Rajat Patidar their new captain for the 2025 IPL season. The 31-year-old has broken into record books as the eighth captain of the three-time IPL runners-up, following some distinguished names such as Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Virat, Kohli, and Faf du Plessis. The Indore-born player will be expected to do wonders with his leadership skills to help RCB achieve the coveted trophy for the first time.

As a player, he has served the Challengers efficiently as he has accumulated 799 runs in 24 innings of 27 matches at an amazing strike rate of 158.84. He has added seven fifties and a ton to his profile while donning RCB colours. Back in 2021, Patidar broke into the team after getting sold for only INR 20 lakh at the 2021 IPL auction held in Chennai. In the 2022 IPL installment, he hit an unbeaten 112 off 54 against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the playoffs game played at the iconic Eden Gardens, and guided his team to a 14-run win.

As Patidar will be gearing up to be effective in the new role, it’s essential for RCB fans to know their skipper’s captaincy records as he led his domestic side Madhya Pradesh in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy from 2019 to 2024. In the 2024-25 season, Patidar displayed his best performance as a skipper recently as under his leadership, Madhya Pradesh concluded the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024/25 as runners-up.

Before reaching the final, Madhya Pradesh played an aggressive brand of cricket under Patidar and topped their group with six wins of seven games. Noting Patidar’s leadership calibre, RCB supporters will expect Patidar to achieve something which his successors Kumble, Kohli, and du Plessis couldn’t.
