Versatile Bollywood actor Rajkummar Rao will be seen playing the role of former India captain Sourav Ganguly in the latter’s biopic. The 52-year-old, who served Team India for 16 years from 1992 to 2008, held a conversation with the media in Bardhaman, West Bengal, and said Rao is all set to portray him in the upcoming biopic. However, the scheduling issue has led to the delay of release by over a year.

Ganguly is considered the man who changed India’s playing style with his captaincy. After getting the reins of the side in 2000, he taught Team India not only to win in home conditions but also display competitive spirit in overseas conditions. It was his leadership that India levelled the Test series in Australia and England in the early 2000s, and also won an ODI series on English soil in 2002. Under his captaincy, India also made their World Cup final appearance in 2003. He is the fifth-leading run-getter for India across all formats, notching up 18433 runs in 421 matches at an average of 41.42. After retirement, he also handled the responsibility of BCCI President from October 2019 to October 2022.

Ganguly will be crucial for DC’s upcoming IPL 2025 campaign

Ganguly will be seen with Delhi Capitals (DC) in the upcoming IPL 2025 edition. He has been associated with the IPL franchise since 2023. In November 2024, he attended the IPL 2025 auction in Jeddah and sat on the auction table to rebuild Delhi’s team for this season. In October 2024, he also became the JSW Sports Director of Cricket which handed him the power to head the DC teams of IPL and WPL.

DC will kick off their IPL 2025 campaign against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Visakhapatnam on March 24, 2025. The 2020 runners-up are yet to declare their captain. Faf du Plessis, KL Rahul, and Axar Patel are considered contenders for the leadership role.
