Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has seemingly launched an acrimonious attack on his team’s former players, who served the side during the 1990s. Earlier, Latif hit the headlines for urging the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to keep the 1992 World Cup-winning players away from the national team’s management. Pakistan’s early exit from the Champions Trophy 2025 has tarnished their reputation as they are not just the hosts but also went into the tournament as defending champions. Following the failure, the Men in Green are facing criticism from their former players consistently for the last few days.
Appearing on YouTube show "Caught Behind", Latif took an aim at Pakistan’s 90s superstars as he blamed them for the team’s debacle in the Champions Trophy 2025. He didn’t mention any names but he referred to former Pakistan stalwarts as "Dubai ke launde". "Yeh Dubai ke laundon ne tabahi pehla diya hai. Dono ek dusre ke taarifen kar kar ke khush ho raha hai. Zindagi bhar ladte rahe, hume aag me phek diya aur...kamal log hai. Inke aage paisa phenko, yeh kuch bhi kardenge," remarked Latif.
Team Pakistan will look to showcase their best in New Zealand
Following the forgettable Champions Trophy 2025 campaign, Team Pakistan will lock horns with New Zealand in a five-match T20I series followed by three ODIs. Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam failed to make it to the T20I side, while Shadab Khan might be seen in Pakistan colours again after nine months as his name has featured in the 15-member T20I squad.
Rizwan will be seen captaining Pakistan in the three-match ODI series and his responsibility will be to step up and be impactful with both bat and leadership to help his team continue their dominance on foreign soil. Pakistan won their last two overseas ODI competitions against Australia and South Africa in 2024. The Men in Green will kick off their campaign against the Kiwi team with the first T20I to be played in Christchurch on March 16.
