Former Team India coach Ravi Shastri has commended Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s inception in the illustrious Indian Premier League (IPL). However, he also cautioned the teenage cricketer, who has achieved the feat of being the youngest player with the IPL debut. Playing a couple of games in the ongoing T20 extravaganza, he has scored 50 runs at a strike rate of 156.25. Against lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in Jaipur on April 19, he played his debut game and won several hearts with his brisk 34-run innings that came in 20 balls.
Noting the youngster’s batting prowess, he is being touted as a future star. Shastri also agreed with the fact but he has issued a warning to Suryavanshi. Appearing on an episode of the ICC review, Shastri said that he was stunned to witness the talents of RR’s Suryavanshi, Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) Ayush Mhatre and Punjab Kings’ (PBKS) opening pair Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh. Talking about Suryavanshi, Shastri said failures will be inexorable for the youngster but his potential to handle setback will decide his future in competitive cricket.
“I think the first shot he played, that would have taken everyone's breath away. But, he's young, so I would say just let him play a bit because it's at that age, there's bound to be failure as well. It's how he handles failure,” said Shastri.
Priyansh Arya puts up 35-ball 69 against KKR in Kolkata
Priyansh Arya again showcased his batting mettle for Punjab Kings (PBKS) and delivered a stunning innings of 69 off 35 to his side against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Eden Gardens. Batting first after winning the toss, Punjab elected to bat first and Arya did a magnificent job as an opener.
Along with his opening partner Prabhsimran Singh, he stitched a 120-run partnership off 71 balls for the first wicket. Arya's knock was studded with 12 boundaries (eight fours and four maximums). He played with a stupendous strike rate of 197.14.
