After India lifted the ICCChampions Trophy on the night of March 9, 2025, at the Dubai International Stadium, there were multiple rumours about the potential retirement of some of the senior squad members of the Indian cricket team; namely skipper Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja. While all three of them had a fabulous campaign, people thought that they would announce their retirement after this victory, as to leave on a high note, like they did after winning the T20 World Cup in 2024.
However, any such rumours have been dismissed through statements given by the players themselves. Rohit Sharma made it very clear in his post-match interview with the press after the victory, while Ravindra Jadeja took to his Instagram account one day after the win on March 10.
Jadeja posted a four-word story saying, "No unnecessary rumours, thanks!", addressing all the potential rumours that had been doing the rounds surrounding his ODI retirement. The story was received with great joy by the Indian cricket fans as well as fans of the game around the world as Jadeja remains to be one of the most loved cricketers across the globe.
A fabulous ODI record for the all-rounder Jadeja
Ravindra Jadeja, who has had an illustrious ODI career so far, has played 204 ODI matches till date, scoring 2806 runs and has 231 wickets to his name. Jadeja, who was the player of the match in the Champions Trophy 2013 final, has added another ICC trophy to his cabinet. Jadeja picked up five wickets in the 5 matches that he played and was an important fielding asset for the Indian cricket team with his agility and all-round fielding abilities.
Although Jadeja was not involved a lot with the bat, only batting in three of the five matches; his presence in the Indian squad offered an extended batting depth and instilled a sense of confidence and hope in the team and fans alike.
