The Lucknow Super Giants registered their second straight win in the IPL 2024 after defeating the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium by 28 runs. This was RCB's third loss in four games which takes them to the ninth spot on the points table, above the winless Mumbai Indians.
After losing the toss, Lucknow had to bat first and got off to a decent start with KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock posting a 53-run stand before the LSG captain departed. Lucknow also lost another wicket in quick succession before QDK took control and stitched crucial partnerships with Marcus Stoinis and then Nicholas Pooran to ensure LSG's smooth sailing.
But after the South African got out after scoring 81 in 56 balls eight fours and five sixes, Pooran smashed the RCB all around the park to help post a competitive total of 181. The West Indians remained not out 40 in 21 balls with five sixes and one four.
Then in the second innings, Bengaluru faltered after a promising start as they lost Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Glenn Maxwell and Cameron Green in the space of 18 runs after the powerplay. This collapse broke the back of the chase as cameos from Rajat Patidar, Mahipal Lomror and Mohammed Siraj weren't enough and hence RCB had to settle for a 28-run defeat. Mayank Yadav was once again the star as he picked up three wickets while giving away just 14 runs in his four overs.
