England are currently taking on India in a five-match Test series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. While the series stands 2-1 in favour of England, the series is missing some prominent faces from both ends. While England is without some of their mainstays, including Moeen Ali, James Anderson, Stuart Broad - all of whom have retired from Test cricket, India too are without the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Ravichandran Ashwin.
Notably, the decision from the Indian trio came over the past few months, Virat Kohli’s decision was one which left everyone in shock. Notably, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli called on time from Test cricket midway through the IPL. While Kohli went onto lift his maiden IPL trophy with the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, his former teammate, Moeen Ali recently dropped shocking statement in regard with captaincy.
RCB wanted to sack Kohli and wanted to replace with Parthiv Patel: Moeen Ali’s shocking revelation
While Moeen Ali is currently participating in the ongoing World Championship of Legends, which is underway in England, in a conversation with SportsTak journalist Rahul Rawat, the former England made some big revelation, leaving everyone in shock. When inquired if Parthiv Patel was ever to become the RCB captain, Moeen Ali quickly agreed and said, "Yes, I think he was. I'm quite sure he was.”
The former England all-rounder further continued while adding that Kohli was set to be sacked in 2019 as RCB captain and it was almost certain that Parthiv Patel would takeover the reins. "In the final year when Gary Kirsten was there-after the first year, I believe Parthiv was in line to become captain. He had a brilliant cricketing brain," he added. "That was the talk at the time. I don't know what happened or why it didn't materialise, but I'm sure he was seriously considered for the role," Ali further clarified.
It is to be noted that after leading RCB to the final in IPL 2016, the Indian batter struggled to replicate his performances in the following seasons. As a result, the team failed to reach the playoffs in three consecutive seasons along with finishing at the bottom-most spot in 2017 and 2019, getting Virat Kohli under scrutiny. But in 2020, RCB resurged, reaching the playoffs and Virat Kohli finally stepped down from the role after IPL 2021.
