On Sunday, January 19, it has been reported that Spanish club Real Betis are closing-in on signing Manchester United’s winger Antony for the rest of the 2024-25 season. The deal between both the clubs is expected to go through later today after Manchester United take on Brighton in a Premier League home match at Old Trafford, aiming to pick up back-to-back league wins for the first-time this season.
Notably, Antony was signed by Manchester United in the summer of 2022 for a whopping £81.3 million transfer fee from Dutch club Ajax after his splendid form for them in multiple seasons. Over the last two-and-half years, the Brazilian star has been able to score just 12 goals for Manchester United, and three of which were achieved in just his first three games in the Premier League for the Red Devils.
Antony has made only 13 appearances for Manchester United in 32 games this season
Under the recently departed manager Erik ten Hag and his successor Ruben Amorim, along with interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy, the 24-year-old has featured in just 13 matches this season for Manchester United out of 32 in all competitions. Antony has made no starts in the Premier League this season for the club after 23 and 15 starts respectively in previous two seasons, and he has scored just one goal in the competition since April 2023.
In his last Premier League appearance, Antony missed a golden opportunity to score the opening goal for Manchester United at Old Trafford against Southampton after the latter had gone a goal up. Fortunately for him, Antony stepped up to the plate for the Red Devils from the right wing, a position Brazilian operates at, scoring a hat-trick within 13 minutes deep into second half, to help them secure a unlikely 3-1 win.
Moreover, Real Betis, who are all set to sign Antony, currently hold 11th spot in La Liga, while they are set to play against Gent in the UEFA Conference League play-off next month.
