Liverpool head to Spain to take on Real Madrid in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League Quarter-final in a blockbuster encounter. Two of the Europe's most successful clubs meet on Tuesday night in a repeat of the 2018 final. Both the teams won their domestic leagues last season but have not looked in the best of forms this season as they struggle to defend their Premier League and La Liga title respectively.

Path to the Quartefinals

Madrid topped their Champions League Group B comprising of Inter Milan, Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Mönchengladbach with 10 points and then knocked out Atalanta in the Round of 16, courtesy of an aggregate score line of 4-1.

On the other hand, Liverpool dominated Group D comprising of Atalanta, Ajax and FC Midtjylland with 13 points before getting past RB Leipzig in the Round of 16 with a 4-0 aggregate victory.

Current Form

Real Madrid claimed a vital 2-0 victory against Eibar in La Liga this Saturday but the Reds are coming on the back off an even more impressive result, a 3-0 thrashing of Arsenal, with Diogo Jota scoring a clinical brace after coming off the bench in 2nd-half. A mouthwatering contest awaits the football fans as both teams are in decent form and are also capable of pulling a special performance out of the bag.

Team News

Real Madrid

Captain Sergio Ramos will miss both legs due to a calf injury he picked up on international duty with Spain. Ramos’s absence will be a significant blow for the Spanish giants and a boost for Liverpool’s chances of progressing to the semi-finals.

Eden Hazard has recently returned to training and could possibly be in the squad against Liverpool. While influential midfielder Toni Kroos returned from injury on Saturday as he came off the substitutes’ bench.

Liverpool

Nat Phillips and Ozan Kabak are forming a promising partnership at the back for Liverpool and the duo will face a litmus test against Benzema and Co. Fabinho’s return to midfield lends stability to Liverpool’s defensive structure and his performance will be crucial again on Tuesday.
