Although Real Madrid are yet to play four more matches in this season of the La Liga, the Spanish Giants have already secured the title with a 4-0 win at home over Espanyol.

Rodrygo was the chief architect of Madrid's win as he scored a brace in the fixture. Notably, Madrid needed a solitary point to clinch the trophy but three points have more than sealed the deal and handed them their record-extending 35th domestic league crown.

The result means that Madrid have moved 17 points ahead of the second-placed Sevilla on the points table who also have four matches remaining. Even though Barcelona have one more game in hand, they are 18 points behind the new winners and table toppers Madrid.

With Madrid being at the helm of the points tally since November last year, there was little surprise that they have become the winners of the Spanish League. However, arch-rivals Barcelona and Sevilla dropped points and form during this period which has meant that Madrid have sealed the title race a bit earlier than expected.

Other than Rodrygo's first-half brace, Marco Asensio and Karim Benzema chipped in with a goal each in the second half to thrash their opponents on Saturday.

The win also means veteran full-back Marcelo now has a whopping 24 major honours with the Los Blancos. The number is significant since this is more than any other play in the history of the club.

With the title secured in Spain, Madrid can afford to completely shift their focus towards the second leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final against Manchester City where they need to overcome a 4-3 deficit from the first leg to reach the continental final.
